World Trade Centre Attack Declared ‘Mass Homicide’

Tuesday, 11th September 2001

New York, NY [NotS]

I couldn’t make this up. And, if I could, I’d have put it at NationalPrevaricator.com.
According to some nut or other–it was on television, and I rarely pay any attention to anything on television–the 11th September 2001 attack on the World Trade Centre has been declared a ‘mass homicide’.
Is anyone else thinking what I’m thinking here?
Call this a ‘mass homicide’, instead of an ‘act of war’, and you’re halfway done. Then just call the attack on the buildings an ‘act of malicious mischief’, and you get to claim the entire thing on your insurance.
It’s really very clever if you think about it….
Can you imagine the results if other ‘tragedies’ had been classified as ordinary crimes?
Perhaps you remember the ‘aggrivated extortion’ at Columbine HIgh School in Littleton on 20th April 1999. Or the ‘ORing stress fatigue claim’ on 28th January 1986. The ‘China Syndrome copyright infringement’ at ThreeMile Island on 28th March 1978. And on 17th June 1972, the Watergate migth have filed after the ‘Code 10-31–Breaking and Entering’ was issued. And, even before the ‘domestic disturbances’ in Viet Nam and Korea, there was the ‘avionicular homicide’ at Pearl Harbour on 7th December 1941–a day which will live in indemnity, and all because it wasn’t correctly euphemised.
Now: is it me, or have things become way too financial lately? The kids of the dead people at the World Trade Centre are getting federal aid to go to college now. Not that I’m opposed to federal aid going to educate people; I just wonder what sort of future we’re looking at when academic scholarships are issued not for intellectual prowess, but for having your parents blown into little bits.
Which will probably become the next Affirmative Action racket: ‘I’m a white male with zero vocational aptitude, but my parents were killed in the World Trade Centre’; congratulations–you’re hired.
Oh well. We’ll all look back on this and laugh once Osama bin Laden has been sued for Wrongful Death, I’m sure….
